Understanding Udemy Deals And Discounts
Udemy is always some kind of a promotion almost on a daily basis. Some promotions are gigantic promotions and other promotions are tiny and make almost no impact on instructor revenue.

Every season, Udemy does a major promotion where every course on Udemy is discounted to $10. There is usually some fancy name for these sales. There is a Black Friday sale in the Fall, the goal-setting January sale in the Winter, and the big May and August sales.

Those gigantic sales seem to be in place to make sure that Udemy meets its monthly growth goals. Other than in January, the other sales tend to be at the very end of the season. In Between those gigantic sales, Udemy runs multiple mid-size promotions at various prices to subsets of students.

In Between the Udemy promotions, instructors promote their own Udemy discounts, usually for $10 each. In the past, instructors used to be able to discount the courses to below $10 per course, but in April 2016, Udemy took away that ability so now instructors can’t compete on price on Udemy during Udemy’s major sales. But the $10 price is the cheapest possible price at the moment, so if Udemy runs a higher price promotion, students can still snap up courses for $10 from instructor promotions.

One thing instructors do is sell the same courses from their own websites. If you sell from your own website, you can sell the courses at lower prices and undermine Udemy’s prices. Some instructors have even gone as far as promoting their courses for discounts if students buy those courses with Cryptocurrency like Bitcoin or Etherium.

Some instructors also promote their courses for free, but the free courses tend to be of lower quality, which ultimately turns students off from buying your higher quality courses. Of course, you can search Udemy for free courses right on Udemy by selecing the free courses option in the search
